چکیده

An interframe coding method for multiview image sequences using 3-D models is presented. The 3-D motion is estimated using an optical ow formulation which also takes into consideration the photometric e ects of rotation, using a specular illumination re ection model. More speci cally, the Phong specular re ection model is used, resulting to a luminance model which depends on the surface normal at each 3-D point, six illumination parameters, as well as the viewing angle. A Gauss-Newton optimization technique is used to estimate the illumination parameters. During the motion estimation stage, the same technique is used to estimate the 3-D motion parameters. Experimental results show that the use of this illumination model for motion compensation results in improved image reconstruction, when compared to standard 2-D and 3-D motion estimation techniques.

Disparity field and depth map coding for multiview 3D image generation

In the present paper techniques are examined for the coding of the depth map and disparity elds for stereo or multiview image communication applications. It is assumed that both the left and right channels of the multiview image sequence are coded using blockor object-based methods. A dynamic programming algorithm is used to estimate a disparity eld between each stereo image pair. Depth is then...

Block-based Illumination Compensation and Search Techniques for Multiview Video Coding

We consider block-based interview coding techniques for multiview video sequences that are robust to illumination variations across views. We consider both global illumination differences which could be due to lack of camera calibration or heterogeneity, as well as local ilumination changes caused by lack of camera aligment. We propose a two-parameter model for illumination compensation (IC) th...

Sprite Generation and Coding of Multiview Image Sequences

An algorithm to generate background sprite images from multiview image sequences is presented. A dynamic programming algorithm, using a multiview matching cost as well as pure geometrical constraints, is used to provide an estimate of the disparity field and to identify occluded areas. By combining motion, disparity and occlusion information, a sprite image corresponding to the first (main) vie...

Multiview Depth-Image Compression Using an Extended H.264 Encoder

This paper presents a predictive-coding algorithm for the compression of multiple depth-sequences obtained from a multi-camera acquisition setup. The proposed depth-prediction algorithm works by synthesizing a virtual depth-image that matches the depth-image (of the predicted camera). To generate this virtual depth-image, we use an image-rendering algorithm known as 3D image-warping. This newly...

Multiview Video Coding Based on Global Motion Model

In this paper, we present a novel scheme for coding multiview video sequence based on global motion prediction between adjacent views. For that, the left-most view is compressed as reference sequence using standard block-based motion compensated prediction coding. And its right view is compressed with global motion prediction from the left view images. In the prediction, an eight-parameter glob...
